Original VW Rear View Camera for Scirocco

The rear view camera option for the Scirocco is limited to either the aftermarket licence light camera or the original bumper mounted camera.

We installed the original bumper mounted camera as follow
1. Remove rear bumper
2. Follow marking behind bumper & cut out a 30mm by 30mm square hole between the two licence lights
3. Fit factory provided harness behind bumper and run it along the sides to the Head Unit in front.
4. Program HU to recognize the presence of the camera.
5. Engage Reverse Gear with hatch closed.
6. Picture appears and stays on until vehicle is moving up to 15 kmph forward or deactivated manually.

29 June '13 : Mounting the Golf 6 Emblem Camera on Polo 6R

A good customer requested that I assist in the installation of a Polo 6R emblem camera.  I was under the impression that was an original VW emblem camera.

To my surprise, a Made In China emblem camera greeted me.

The camera is actually meant for the Golf 6 model.  As such, the mounting points on the camera and that on the Polo 6R rear hatch do not match. There is no possibility of securing the camera to the hatch.

Out came a clever guide from Spain and a special CNC   produced bracket which secures the camera body to the hatch.  Clever but one of the mounting screw was too tall for the camera to be secured. It was preventing part of the camera from being mounted back onto the housing.  Had to do without that mounting screw for the moment.....the owner would acquire a flat head screw separately and get it installed. Really uncomfortable with the missing screw.

After some struggle, we managed to secure the camera and drain pipe to the hatch with only two of the three screws.  Remember that the camera itself is a Golf 6 version and is held in place with this special bracket.

Connected the camera to the vehicle using a Kufatec IMA Reverse Camera module which was originally installed for his Licence Light Camera.

A good learning experience !

The rear view display of the camera on the RNS510 is pretty decent but some work still need when compared to the original camera. I would think it is good bang for the buck though.

Personally, I would prefer to use the original VW camera. The special bracket would come in really handy though.

7th August 2013 : VW Emblem Camera on Mark 5 GTI

Always wanted the emblem camera on my GTI Mk5 .

An instruction on how it can be done can be found at My-GTI-dot-com

My reservation is on the cutting of the sheet metal and amputation of the wiper motor supporting joints.

After a long deliberation of a few years and the constant blurred view on the RNS rear view display when it rain......finally got it done this morning.

The wiper operation did not show any difference in operation. No vibration or strange movement of the rear wiper. Cutting the sheet metal was also done in a breeze using a mini disc cutter !

27 August 2013

Retrofitted the original VW emblem reverse camera on this 1.2 Beetle.

Complete removal of all the lid trim is necessary for the camera installation

Drain Plug at the bottom of the lid.

The original handle has a drain pipe....this is not found on the other models with emblem handle

The rubber drain hose connected to the lid handle and drain out of the lid

The lid is design for the motorised  emblem camera .

The camera is popped out from behind the emblem when trigger.
Otherwise, it is hidden. Does not interferes with opening function
.

View on the RCD510 is relatively acceptable.
The original RDD510 is prepared for the RVC

16 November 2013 : Emblem Reverse Camera on GTI Mk7

We retrofitted the emblem reverse camera onto a brand new Golf 7 GTI .  Most of the new trims installation on the Golf 7 is similar to Golf 6

The emblem camera is similar to the Mk6 but output is a composite video

Clarity is not as good as the RNS510  despite the bigger screen display

6th July 2016

New Original Volkswagen Emblem Camera

We retrofitted this Beetle with an RNS510 and included the new Volkswagen emblem camera ( Beetle version ).  The option for the earlier bumper mounted original VW camera ( used on the Scirocco ) have been forgone because of the exposure to rain and elements. The hidden emblem camera would protect the camera.

Unlike the Golf 6 or Passat, the emblem camera for the Beetle is unique.

The camera view enhance the OPS sensors.

PeeKaPoo !

I see you now !

Hidden within the emblem housing, the camera is well protected.
The camera is hidden in the emblem and only pops out when in Reverse Mode
